Faculty Profile: Niño Michael Baring

Niño Michael Baring – Poi / Fire Dance Instructor

Niño Michael Baring is one of the pioneers of POI/Fire Dancing in Cebu. He started this worthwhile endeavor three years ago and has been regularly performing at Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Mactan, Cebu until present.

Before becoming a fire dancer, Niño has been exposed to the different dance genres. In 1999, he was a member of the Pop Jazz group at the University of San Carlos College of Architecture and Fine Arts. He was also a member of the University of San Carlos Dance Troupe from 2000 to 2003. In 2003, he also became the Champion in the Latin Dancesport Category of the University of San Carlos Intramurals.

To further his dance training and develop his technique, Niño joined the basic ballet classat Ballet Center in 2004. He was an active member of the dance group called VERVE and because of that,for a year, he was one of the regular dance performers of Singgit Cebu, an entertainment program in GMA 7. He also became a member of the TALENTO Dance Company from 2005 until 2007.

Currently, he is the group representative and manager of the Hotaru Fire Artists, a group of fire dancers that performs in corporate functions. The group has taken part in various corporate events such as those of Honda and San Miguel Corporation. They have performed in the MAWAF Art Festival in Baguio in 2008, the NU 107 Full Moon Party in 2010, various events in Parklane, Shangrila Resort and Spa, Imperial Hotel and Hilton Hotel.  They also performed at the Ayala Summer Soiree in 2010, at the Parkmall Earth Hour Celebrations in 2009 and 2010, at the Paradiso Event, Summer Sunscreen, both in 2010.
